Rats are a fact of life on allotment sites but they can be dealt ith. However, we must follow a strict policy of NOT allowing anyone to bring rat/mouse poison onto our allotment sites. This is because the association MUST follow strict guidelines about the handling of poisons. Therefore, if you think you have a problem with rats, let your site rep know and he/she will make the necessary arrangements to get some rat poison put down under strictly controlled procedures. It is essential that the above process is followed in order to avoid any accidents occurring (i.e. rat poison put down by an individual being eaten by a dog or child) and the association then becoming liable under COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
