It's fast approaching the Pollution Period - please think twice before setting fire to "Garden Waste". (In fact there's no such thing: it can be composted and has locked in nutrients which are destroyed by fire). We all depend on clean air so let's rid the Particulate Carbons from our lungs and no smoke signals to Glasgow! With this in mind it was agreed at the October Committee Meeting that Bonfires/Incinerating should no longer be permitted on HwDAA sites from next April 2022. Sir David Attenborough says we have: "a moral responsibility"! Top tips: ASK your Site Rep / Environmental Rep. the alternatives to burning CHECK the HwDAA website page: "Bonfires and Incinerators" COMPOSTING: Produces ideal soil conditioner and it’s FREE. (Couch Grass, Mare's Tail, Bindweed and other problematic plants can generally be drowned for a few months). RECYCLING CENTRES: The one at Avonmouth is particularly good. GREEN BIN: BCC currently charge £21 for a bin and £32 annual service charge. Service charge £3 discount for paying by Direct Debit. (Lower rates available). GARDEN WASTE SACKS: BCC provided. Pack of 25 = £25.00 Includes the collection (booking required). Both above collected every two weeks. To order garden waste sacks call 0117 922 2100. Also from Riverside, Henleaze Garden Shop & Mogford, W-o-T. BURYING: Deeply dig in on the allotment. Better if cut or shredded.
